Real Madrid secured their place in the Champions League quarter-finals by defeating Liverpool 1-0 in their second-leg match, winning 6-2 on aggregate. Karim Benzema scored the winning goal, continuing his impressive record against Liverpool in the competition.

Vinicius Junior and Benzema were lethal in the first leg, scoring two goals each, but neither was as decisive in the second leg until they combined for Madrid's winning goal. Vinicius slipped while trying to shoot, but the ball ended up in Benzema's path, resulting in a simple tap-in.




Madrid had multiple opportunities to extend their lead, but Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker made a series of superb stops, and Madrid's finishing was unusually profligate. However, Madrid's single goal was enough to see them through to the next round.

Benzema spoke of the importance of winning, even if the team had to suffer, saying "Everyone wants more, but sometimes you have to suffer in a game - the most important thing is to win and go through."



Klopp praised Madrid's performance, saying "Madrid was outstanding, and that's why the better team went through to the next round." He also acknowledged Liverpool's inconsistency this season and stated that they were unable to produce the same magic they did in their 7-0 thrashing of Manchester United in the Premier League.




Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti was pleased with his team's performance, saying they were full of confidence after their remarkable run to the final last season. However, he emphasized the need for surprising football and competition until the end of the tournament.

Madrid's victory over Liverpool marks their third consecutive knockout of the English club in the Champions League, including a win over them in last year's final. Madrid will face Barcelona in the Clasico on Sunday, with Benzema confirmed fit to play despite limping off after his goal.
